Special situations – a cancelled wedding, postponement and your wedding dress
What no one plans for, but which we have seen before and can help through.

We got married in secret without a big wedding dress and party. How do we tell the family?
Tell them yourselves and in person, and the closest family first, before a photo appears online. Say briefly why you chose a secret ceremony, without apologising. Then invite the family to something, for example a dinner, a party later on or a church blessing. A later party where you wear your wedding dress can give the family some of the day they missed. What upsets the family is rarely the wedding itself, but hearing the news from someone else. Find more about good manners around the wedding under wedding etiquette.
The wedding has been cancelled, what do I do with my wedding dress now?
Wait before deciding anything about the wedding dress. Have it cleaned if it has been worn, and put it in a box with acid-free paper so it does not turn yellow while you think. Later the dress can be sold, remade into a party dress or donated. You do not need to do it this month, and you owe nobody an explanation, not even the shop. When you are ready, you can read about cleaning, selling and remaking under after the wedding.
We have postponed the wedding, can the order for my wedding dress be moved?
At Brudekjoleoutlet there is no order to move, because you take the wedding dress home when you buy it, and it waits with you until the new date. If you have an appointment with the tailor, contact us and move it, it costs nothing. Hang the dress properly in the meantime, not in the plastic bag, and have it cleaned if it has been tried on many times. See how tailoring and alterations work when you need to find a new time.
How can we remember someone who has passed away on our wedding day, for example in the wedding gown?
There are several quiet ways to remember someone who has died on the wedding day, and they need not make the day heavy. It can be an empty chair with a flower, a photo on a table, a line in the programme or a hymn the person loved. Some brides also sew a piece of jewellery or a piece of fabric into the wedding dress, where only the bride knows it is. Tell the priest and the toastmaster what you are doing so they know before they speak. Ask our tailor if a keepsake is to be sewn into the dress.
What do we do if the bride falls ill on the wedding day itself, with the wedding dress hanging ready?
Scale the wedding day down instead of cancelling. The ceremony can be held with your closest family, and the party can be moved or go ahead without the couple being there the whole way. If the party is moved, the wedding dress simply waits for the new date. Let the toastmaster announce the change, so you don't have to do it yourselves. Keep painkillers and water in the emergency kit. The guests came for your sake and not for the programme, so nobody will be disappointed. My wedding dress has been damaged just before the wedding, what can I do?
Contact us straight away, even if it is the evening before, and send a photo of the damage to the wedding dress. Our tailor can often repair a tear or sew lace back on within a few hours. If the dress cannot be saved, we have more than 1,000 wedding dresses in stock that you can take home the same day. That is exactly one of the reasons an outlet is a safe choice. Use our contact page, or see all our wedding dresses if you need to find a new one.
What happens to my wedding dress if the shop closes before the dress is delivered?
When you buy the wedding dress at our showroom, the shop cannot close before the dress arrives, because you take it home the same day. There is no factory order and no prepaid amount that can be lost along the way. The risk is real when you order a dress in and pay in advance, which is why many brides ask. Keep your receipt, because it gives you two years' right to complain about faults. Read more about safety and trust when you shop with us.
I regret my choice of wedding dress, what can I do now?
Bring the wedding dress in and let us look at it before you do anything. Often it is not the model that is wrong but the fit, and taking it in, adding sleeves or a different veil can change the whole look. If it is the dress itself, talk to us about what is possible and look through our stock. That is better than feeling unhappy about it all the way to the day. See what our tailoring and alterations can change on the dress.
