What is the best way for the bride to get to the church in her wedding dress on the wedding day?

Most brides go to the church in an ordinary car with someone driving them, and that works fine. The most important thing is space: a wedding dress with a full skirt needs the back seat to itself, and the door must be able to open fully. Put a clean sheet over the seat if the car has not just been cleaned. Allow extra time, because getting in and out takes longer than anyone thinks. Fit the journey into the day's plan with our answers about planning.

Can you hire a vintage car or limousine for a wedding in Denmark with room for the wedding dress?

Yes, there are vintage car and limousine hire companies all over Denmark, and the vintage car is by far the most popular choice for weddings. Ask whether the car has room for a wedding dress with a big skirt, whether a chauffeur is included, and whether the price covers waiting time between church and party. Book in good time if it is a Saturday in the summer season. Ask for a plan B in case the car won't start, because that happens with old cars. Find more ideas for the day on our blog.

What does wedding transport cost for the couple and the guests when there also has to be room for a wedding dress?

The price of wedding transport depends on whether you use your own cars, hire a car with a chauffeur or book a coach for the guests. Your own cars only cost petrol, a vintage car is typically hired for half a day, and a coach becomes cheap per person when many share it. Remember that the car the bride travels in must have enough room for the wedding dress. Work out the total price per guest, and you will see whether it is worth the money. See the whole budget in our answers about price and budget.

How do I get into a car wearing a big wedding dress?

Sit down first with your back to the seat and then swing your legs in, instead of going in head first. Gather the skirt up in your arms before you sit, and let a helper tuck it in after you and close the door. Put the train in your lap, not down by your feet where it gets caught in the door. Practise it once during the fitting. Read about wedding dress fittings, so you know what you can test.

How do I stop the wedding dress creasing in the car on the way to church?

Put the wedding dress on as close to departure as possible, and hang it up in the car instead of folding it if you are changing at the venue. Sit on a sheet, put the train in your lap, and position the seat belt so it presses on the skirt as little as possible. If creases appear anyway, most of them disappear with steam from a shower. Can the bride arrive at the church in a horse-drawn carriage when she is wearing a big wedding dress?

Yes, there are companies that hire out horse-drawn carriages, and it gives photos nobody forgets. Think about the practical side: the carriage moves slowly, so allow extra time, it is high to climb into in a big wedding dress, and the weather can make the ride cold. Ask whether the road to the church is suitable and whether there is somewhere the horses can stand during the ceremony. Check what the time of year means in our answers about season and weather.

Can you cycle in a wedding dress to your own wedding?

Yes, some brides in Copenhagen do it, and it often becomes one of the best photos you get. It requires a wedding dress without a train or with a train that can be tied up, flat shoes and a short distance. Make a plan B in case it rains, and have someone ride alongside with the bag and the veil. Tell the photographer about the plan, so she can follow you. Find a cut that can handle the bike in our answers about style and silhouette.

Should we arrange a coach for the wedding guests, and can the bride ride along in her wedding dress?

Yes, arrange a coach if the party is somewhere without public transport, or if it is a long way between church and party. A coach doesn't cost much per person when many share it, and it means guests stay until the end instead of driving home early. The bride usually travels in her own car, so the wedding dress has room and doesn't get creased. Write the departure times in the invitation, and ask a guest to count heads. Get help with the wording in our answers about invitations.

How do guests get a taxi home from a countryside wedding venue, and how does the wedding gown get home safely?

Book the taxis in advance, because in the countryside no car turns up just because you call at one in the morning. Agree with a taxi company that two or three cars will be waiting from a set time, and put the number in the programme. Ask a guest to coordinate. Also make sure the couple have a car with room for the wedding gown, or that a best man or maid of honour drives it home. The alternative is a coach or a list of nearby accommodation in the invitation. Read more in our answers about the wedding venue.
