Accessibility – ceremonies and wedding dresses for every need
What we can prepare in advance so that the day is not about the practical.

I can't stand for very long. What do I do during the ceremony, and which wedding gown should I choose?
If you cannot stand for long, tell the minister or the marriage authority in advance, and chairs will be put out, which is quite normal. A ceremony can easily be held seated all the way through. Choose shoes you can stand in, and a wedding dress without a heavy train that pulls on the shoulders. Plan the group photos somewhere with a chance to sit down in between. Do you have wedding dresses without scratchy fabric and tight boning for sensitive skin?
Yes, there are wedding dresses without scratchy fabric and tight boning. Look for crepe, soft satin or lined jersey, without stiff boning and without tulle against the skin, because tulle is the scratchiest. A dress with a zip instead of lacing is less constricting. Tell us when you book, and we will only bring out styles you can wear comfortably, and our tailor can remove boning or sew in a soft lining. See our soft satin wedding dresses.
How do we make the ceremony accessible for deaf guests, so they can see both the wedding dress and the vicar?
Ask the church whether there is a hearing loop, and tell them where the deaf guest will sit. If a sign language interpreter is needed, the interpreter must be booked in good time, and the local council can help in some cases. Make sure the guest sits at the front with a clear view of you and the vicar, and give them the programme in writing so it can be followed with the eyes. From the front rows the guest can also see the wedding dress as you come in. Read more in our questions about special situations.
