Is a wedding videographer worth the money, so the wedding dress can be seen in motion too?
A videographer is worth the money if you want to be able to hear the day again, because video gives you something photos cannot: your voices when you say yes, and the speeches. Video also shows how the wedding dress moves when you walk and dance. Video is the item most people regret skipping, but also the one most often cut when the budget gets tight. If you have to choose, book the photographer first and a short video afterwards. Read about photographers in our FAQ on wedding photographers.
What does a wedding videographer cost in Denmark if we want the whole day, from putting on the wedding dress?
A wedding videographer in Denmark costs from around 8,000 DKK for a short package covering the ceremony. A video with the ceremony, reception and portraits is typically 11,000-15,000 DKK, and a full day including the party and first dance costs 14,000-20,000 DKK. The top end starts at around 30,000 DKK. Extra hours often cost around 1,300 DKK an hour, so get the price in writing. If getting ready and putting on the wedding dress in the morning should be included, ask whether it counts towards the hours. More budget tips are in our FAQ on price and budget.
How long should our wedding film be if both the ceremony and the wedding dress are to be included?
A wedding film should be three to five minutes in the version you actually watch again and show people, plus a longer version of twenty to forty minutes with the whole ceremony and the speeches for the archive. Ask for both if it can be included in the price. A film lasting an hour and a half is rarely watched more than once. If you want the details of your wedding dress included, tell the videographer so there is time for a few close-ups. Also ask for a vertical version for your phone. Find more wedding tips on our blog.
When will we get the wedding film from the videographer, and can we have a teaser showing the wedding gown first?
Two to three months is normal for a wedding film, and longer in peak season, because it has to be edited and the sound added. Ask for a specific number of weeks and have it written into the contract. Ask for a short teaser within a couple of weeks so you have something to show, such as a glimpse of the ceremony and the wedding gown. If the answer is vague, it is the same warning sign as with a photographer. Compare with our FAQ on photographers.
How do we make sure the sound is good when our vows are recorded on video, and can the microphone go on the wedding dress?
Good sound needs a small microphone on the groom's lapel and a recorder near the priest or officiant, not the camera's own microphone from the back of the church. A microphone on the wedding dress is harder to hide and can rustle against the fabric, so it usually goes on the groom. Ask the videographer how the sound will be handled, as that decides whether the recording is worth anything. Tell the priest in advance that a microphone will be fitted, and ask permission. Read more about the ceremony itself in our FAQ on weddings and the law.
Can the videographer fly a drone at our wedding venue in Denmark and film the wedding dress from the air?
In some places yes, but there are rules on where drones may be flown in Denmark, and they may not be flown over people without permission. Urban areas and areas near airports are restricted. Ask both the venue and the videographer, and check that the videographer has the necessary certificate and insurance. A drone can capture the whole train of the wedding dress from above, but see it as a bonus. Do not count on a drone in rain or strong wind. Read about choosing a venue in our FAQ on venues.
Can we get a short version of the wedding video for Instagram with the wedding dress in focus?
Yes, a short version for Instagram is easy to make if the videographer knows in advance, and more expensive to ask for afterwards. Ask for a vertical version of half a minute to a full minute. A clip of you twirling in your wedding dress works well on a phone. At the same time, agree whether the videographer may use it on their own profile, and whether you want to be credited or would rather not be seen. Get it all into the contract when you book. What is Super 8 film, and how does a white wedding dress look on that kind of film?
Super 8 is small-gauge footage shot on real film, which gives grain, warm colours and a home-movie feel, and it has come back into demand for weddings. The warm colours can make a white wedding dress look slightly creamy, so ask to see examples. It is shot without sound, cannot be checked on the spot and costs more per minute. That is why Super 8 is often used alongside an ordinary video, not instead of one. Ask how many minutes of film are included. Find more inspiration in our FAQ on inspiration.
