How much does a wedding dress cost in Denmark?
It is the first thing almost everyone asks, and it is also the question with the most different answers. Ask three friends and you get three numbers. There is a reason for that. The price depends on where you buy the dress, who made it, and whether it is ordered in for you or already hanging on a rail.
The price in Denmark
In an ordinary Danish bridal shop, most dresses cost between 8,000 and 20,000 DKK. That is the middle range, and it is where most brides end up. Simpler dresses without lace and beading can be found for 3,000-5,000 DKK, while collections from the well-known Spanish and Italian design houses rarely start below 30,000 DKK.
What do brides pay elsewhere?
In the US, The Knot asked more than 10,000 couples who married in 2025. The average wedding dress cost around 2,100 dollars, roughly 14,500 DKK. Brides with the smallest budgets spent around 1,200 dollars, and those at the expensive end around 3,200. In the UK, Hitched, the country's biggest wedding website, says the dress costs about 1,500 pounds on average. That is just under 13,000 DKK.
So Denmark is not far from the rest of the western world. What surprises most brides is not the dress. It is everything that comes after it.
The extras
Almost every wedding dress needs alterations. In Denmark they cost around 1,735 DKK on average, and many brides end up paying somewhere between 1,500 and 5,000 DKK. Americans budget an extra 600-1,200 dollars for alterations, underwear and accessories, so it is not just us. A veil usually costs 500-2,000 DKK, and shoes, underwear and jewellery quickly add up to 2,000-4,000 DKK together. Then there is cleaning after the wedding, which almost everyone forgets.
An honest piece of advice: add 20-30 percent to the price of the dress, and you won't get a surprise in the final month.
Why is the difference so big?
A large part of the price of a new wedding dress is not the fabric. It is the system around it. If you order a dress from a traditional bridal shop, it is made in your size and sent from the factory, which often takes four to eight months. The shop has to keep sample dresses in every style, a stock that must be cleared every season, and a collection that is out of date within a year.
An outlet works the other way round. At BrudekjoleOutlet we buy dresses from stock and discontinued collections, and we only have one of each style. These are real wedding dresses, many of them from well-known designers. They just don't cost what they did when they were in the catalogue. Our cheapest wedding dresses start at around 1,000 DKK, and because we are a Danish shop with a showroom near Copenhagen, you try the dress on before you pay.
What do you get for your money?
For 1,000-3,000 DKK you will usually find simpler dresses in satin or crepe, and now and then a designer dress from an older collection. Between 5,000 and 12,000 DKK you get the lace, the beading and the big tulle skirts. Above 15,000 DKK you are paying for handwork, heavy fabrics and the name on the label.
The expensive dress is not always the right one. We often see brides leave here in a dress costing a third of what they had set aside, simply because it was the one that fitted.
Tell us your real budget
When you come for a fitting, give us the highest number you can stretch to. Not a lower one to be on the safe side, and not a higher one so you can see everything. Once you have stood in a dress you can't afford, every other dress gets measured against it. We only bring out dresses within your budget, unless you ask us to do otherwise.
If you want to see what is available at the lower end, have a look at wedding dresses on sale or all our dresses. You will find more short answers about price in our FAQ on price and budget. And if you have spotted one you want to see in real life, book a fitting.
